Sketchbook Collage 3

Winter is the most interesting time to go to the beach. There I found stones, shells and the beach glass below. Lake Erie's waves were frozen, so the beach stretched farther than normal and the debris was plentiful.

My exploration inspired this sketchbook collage featuring a rocky beach scene framed by blue water and set upon a background of the inside of a security envelope.

Brick Bangle and Collage

One of the things I love about working with paper is its versatility. Even though it is only a two dimensional surface, patterns can give it the appearance of texture. This is especially true of this paper covered bangle bracelet. A clear resin bangle is covered with brick patterned paper and a hint of recycled book text, then glossed to give it a shiny appearance.

Using this same brick paper, I also made a 5x7 " collage on canvas board. Using similar tones, I incorporated a brown paper bag into the background and a couple of tree trunk images in the foreground. To add real texture, I added a button and ribbon.

Sketchbook Collage 2

Here's a bit of spring to inspire you during this cold and dreary winter.

This sunny collage features a background of lined yellow paper and a brown paper bag. In the center is a monarch butterfly, in front of a train ticket from someone's European holiday, which I found in a library book.

Sketchbook Collage 1

As I begin to focus more on my art, I've developed this blog as an outpost for my creative work. With that said, I'll be posting collages from my sketchbook as well as pieces for sale and other paper and collage related products here.

This is the first collage in my sketchbook for the new year. It features found papers, including a paper bag, text from a book, and blue note card for contrast.
